Water Pistol Sellers Report Promising Sales for Songkran

Water Pistol Sellers Report Promising Sales for Songkran By pattayadailynews.com

Despite the political turmoil and violence afflicting the capital at present, Pattaya and Chon-Buri businesses, especially those focusing on the lucrative water gun market, have reported above average sales in preparation for this years Songkran festivities.

Mr. Wimon Likhittham of the Wichan Toys shop in Sriracha, a large manufacturer and distributers of plastic water pistols and pump action water guns, reported that all lines of the popular water toys had been selling remarkably well this year with prices ranging from 50-500 baht considered to be very affordable.

Wichan Toys sells a wide variety of water based weaponry, ranging from the small hand pistols designed in a range of colours and designs, to the larger backpack reservoir guns that seem to be the most popular for this year’s festival. Due to the government initiative preventing the sale of any high powered guns this year, Mr. Likhittham believes that the backpack gun is the choice of the market due to the fact you get much more ‘bang for your buck’ so to speak.

When asked about the effect of the continuing political situation in Bangkok, Mr, Likhittham explained “the instability in the capital is actually aiding the eastern seaboard beach resorts as the tourists and residents seem to be fleeing the capital over the festive period, to avoid the destabilised situation in Bangkok.” The districts of Bang Saen, Bang Phra, Sriracha and Pattaya have all reportedly experienced an upturn in tourism revenue over the last few weeks.

Pattaya’s Recently Re-laid Thappraya Road Collapses by pattayadailynews

News By pattayadailynews.com

Pattaya, the 23rd of April 2010 [PDN]: Several parts of the new road, which took contractors nearly 2 years to compete, have collapsed or are showing worrying signs of wear. Thappraya Road is a main artery of Pattaya, responsible for connecting South Pattaya to Jomtien with adjoining roads to the heavily populated Pratamnak Hill area.

Thappraya Road started to show signs of undue wear within a fortnight of the official opening at the end of March. A large depression in the roads surface has formed at the junction with Pratamnak Road whilst more recently, during an entire day of inclement weather, a section of the road in the Jomtien bound lane has entirely caved-in allegedly due to the insufficient drainage installed.

Several other areas in the new road have been re-laid once again, suggesting that there may have been further issues left unresolved before both lanes of traffic where opened to motorists last month.

Local residents, rightly angered by the continued delay in the construction of the road, are set for further grief as these current issues will have to be rectified. Speculation at present is that the construction of the road was rushed towards the end due to the impending commencement of the Pattaya Music Festival and Thai New Year (Songkran) celebrations.

Note: Observing the road after completion, it seems that very little if any drainage solutions have been incorporated into the final construction. Due to the unexpected inclement weather and the massive amount of heavy traffic that the road is subjected to it really is not surprising that parts of the surface have begun to give way. The question is now; what are the local administrators going to do about it? Surely a simple patch and repair job is not sufficient to avoid further collapses, injuries or possibly fatalities on such a heavily traffic road.

Girlfriend stabbed to death before near fatal car crash

By http://www.pattayabargirls.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=669:girlfriend-stabbed-to-death-before-near-fatal-car-crash&catid=48:pattaya-news

A near fatal car accident occurred along the Bang Saray Beach Road on Wednesday, when an intoxicated Thai man drove his car into an electrical pylon. Also in the car was the dead body of his girlfriend who he claims to have stabbed to death after a heated argument prior to the crash.

21st of April 2010: At approximately 00:30am on Wednesday, police Lieutenant Colonel Niphon Pomsanam (Sattahip Police Investigator) received notification from the Sawang Rodjanatham Foundation that a White Toyota Vios had collided with an electrical pylon along Bang Saray Beach Road. Lt. Col. Pomsanam immediately dispatched a team of officers to investigate the incident.

At the scene, police discovered the severely damaged remains of the vehicle, whilst the driver, Mr. Suphit Phonphaew [35] a chef at a local seafood restaurant, had already been sent to the Queen Sirikit Hospital suffering from severe head and neck injuries. The body of Miss Piyanat Sadsang [28] an insurance saleswoman was found dead in the front passenger’s seat. Miss Sadsang is believed to have died from a series of stab wounds evident on her chest substantiated by the bloody kitchen knife found in the car at the scene. The deceased’s body was sent to the Sattahip Hospital for autopsy once police investigations had been completed.

Mr. Phonphaew admitted, under interrogation, to having stabbed Miss Sadsang in a fit of intoxicated rage following an argument at Bang Saray Beach. He stated that they had been going through a rough period in their relationship, with Miss Sadsang increasingly going out with friends, leading Mr. Phonphaew to become jealous that she may be cheating on him. Mr. Phonphaew explained that he had called Miss Sadsang to the beach in order to talk things over with her, however; the discussion eventually descended into an argument leading to the stabbing. Asked where he had intended to take Miss Sadsang’s body, Mr. Phonphaew revealed that he was not sure whether she had died as a result of the stabbing and so was on his way to the hospital, before losing control of the vehicle, crashing into the electricity pylon.

Police at present speculate that the Mr. Phonphaew may have intentionally crashed into the electrical pylon due to his intoxicated state and the realisation that he had murdered his girlfriend. Medical examinations revealed that he had suffered minor brain damage and whiplash as a result of the accident.

Water Festivities In Pattaya Cause a Splash

A great number of Thai and Foreign tourists arrived to join in the festivities of Songkran on Wan Lai Pattaya in the area of Pattaya, which resulted in a spillage of people onto the Sukhumvit Road, Pattaya 2nd Road, Pattaya 3rd Road, and Jomtien Beach Road, causing chaotic traffic jams.

In addition to the chaos, Pattaya Beach Road had closed off all vehicular access up to Wan Lai with tourists making their way from North Pattaya to Walking Street. The whole of Pattaya enjoyed a busy and wet day with the whiskey connoisseurs forming their own group of water splashes.

Groups of intoxicated teenage gangs joined in the festivities, causing friction between themselves but without inflicting any severe injuries, young girls who had also drank more than their fair share were dancing provocatively with some of them very inappropriately dressed. In addition to all the celebrating, hundreds of foreign tourists were seen to be using PVC pipes to squirt water around at passing festival goers.

All the entertainment venues and departments stores that stayed open throughout the celebrations joined in by broadcasting loud music. A task force of 500 officers took care of the securing the city including some of the much maligned Tourist Police along with Immigration Police, Pattaya Police, Security Volunteers, Municipal Officers, Police Volunteers and the Sawang Boriboon Foundation.
